
The National Chairman of the (NDC), , has urged Ghanaians to remain patient with the government amid concerns about limited vacancies in the ongoing recruitment into the country’s security services.
Speaking to party supporters at on Thursday, March 12, he explained that although about 500,000 applicants have applied to join the , the government cannot recruit all of them due to practical and financial limitations.
According to him, enlisting every applicant would be unrealistic and could even undermine the purpose of the security service.
“If all the 500,000 people seeking recruitment are enlisted, where will we get the thieves to arrest? If we all become police officers, who will we go and arrest?” he said humorously while addressing supporters.
Financial and Logistical Constraints
further noted that recruitment into the security services goes beyond issuing appointment letters. He stressed that the government must also consider the cost of salaries, logistics, and other operational requirements needed to support the recruits.
His remarks come amid heightened public interest in the ongoing recruitment exercise.
Earlier, the indicated that a large number of applicants had advanced in the recruitment process.
The Minister for the Interior, , recently revealed that over 105,000 applicants had successfully progressed to the medical examination stage, despite the fact that only 5,000 positions are available for final enlistment into the service.
The recruitment exercise has generated significant public attention as thousands of young Ghanaians continue to seek employment through the country’s security agencies.
