Two Arrested in Oti Region for Possession of Firearm and 525 Rounds of Ammunition

The Oti Regional Police Intelligence Department (PID/Oti) has arrested two individuals for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition following an intelligence-led operation in the region.

The suspects were apprehended on February 8, 2026, after police intercepted a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GS-4677-17. The vehicle was reportedly transporting goods from Accra to Kpandai in the Northern Region.

A search conducted on the truck uncovered one locally manufactured single-barrel shotgun and twenty-one boxes of ammunition concealed among building materials. The ammunition, identified as Lion AAA and BB cartridges, amounted to a total of 525 rounds.

The driver of the vehicle, 35-year-old Abubakari Salam Atta, and his mate, 19-year-old Kabuja Kwadwo Tademe, who claimed ownership of the exhibits, were immediately arrested.

According to the police, the suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations and will be arraigned before court in due course.

The Regional Police Command has assured the public of its continued commitment to intelligence-led operations aimed at removing illegal weapons from communities across the Oti Region.
