The Adabraka District Court has granted GH¢20,000 bail with two sureties to an 18-year-old man accused of assaulting a security officer at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, popularly known as Ridge Hospital.
The accused, Gabriel Nii Offei Dimson, pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault when he appeared before the court. The case has been adjourned to April 15, 2026.
According to the prosecution, led by Inspector Sandra Amakye, the complainant, Noah Foli, is a security officer stationed at the hospital, while the accused resides in Osu, Accra.
The court heard that the incident occurred on February 18 at about 5:00 p.m. when Dimson visited the hospital’s Maternity Ward, where his wife had reportedly gone into labour. Prosecutors said the accused positioned himself in an unauthorized area within the hospital premises. The security officer approached him and asked him to move to a designated waiting area, explaining that visitors were not permitted at that location.
Although Dimson initially complied, he allegedly returned to the restricted area shortly afterward. When the officer confronted him again, a confrontation reportedly broke out between the two.
During the altercation, Dimson is said to have punched the security officer, causing him to fall to the ground and lose consciousness. He was subsequently arrested to assist with investigations.
The prosecution further told the court that the injured officer was admitted to the hospital’s Emergency Ward and is responding to treatment.
