The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has announced the postponement of the nationwide recruitment exercise for the Police, Immigration and Prisons Service. The process, which was scheduled to begin on Saturday, November 15, will now start on Monday, November 17, 2025.

The decision follows the tragic incident recorded during the military recruitment at the El Wak Sports Stadium. A total of 28 applicants were affected, with six confirmed dead, 12 in critical condition and five receiving treatment in the ICU. Another recruitment exercise in Kumasi also saw five applicants injured.

Muntaka Mubarak stated that the updated recruitment schedule will be published in national newspapers, on official ministry websites and across social media platforms.

He explained that applicants can purchase vouchers either from any GCB Bank branch nationwide or via a USSD code that will be provided in the official publication. The exercise will run on a centralised E-Recruitment Portal designed to standardise recruitment processes across all agencies under the Interior Ministry.

The Ministry has assured the public that enhanced safety measures will be implemented as investigations into the El Wak incident continue.
