The Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, has praised the economic performance of the government, stating that Ghana is now ranked as the eighth richest country in Africa under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama.

According to Dr. Pelpuo, Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has risen above GH₵100 billion, moving the country from its previous position as the 10th richest on the continent to eighth place.

Speaking in an interview with Citi News, the minister attributed the improvement to what he described as effective leadership and sound economic management within the first year of Mahama’s administration.

“This government is a committed government. John Dramani Mahama has shown that leadership can change a lot. He has proven that with this one year of leadership that passed, Ghana can be a different country altogether. Within one year of his administration, we were the number 10 richest country in Africa, with a GDP that places us at number 10.

“Today, after one year of administration, good governance and committed leadership, we shot up to number eight with a GDP that is above a hundred billion. And that is not because Ghanaians have changed, human beings have changed, but because there is good leadership and we are all working towards achieving an objective,” he said.

Dr. Pelpuo maintained that sustained policy direction and disciplined economic management will further strengthen Ghana’s position among Africa’s leading economies.
