Parliament is set to resume sitting today, Tuesday, February 3, 2026, marking the commencement of the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

The resumption follows the Christmas recess, which brought the First Session of the current Parliament to a close in December 2025.

Ahead of today’s sitting, the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business held a series of engagements with Ministers of State to review ongoing legislative work and align priorities for the new session.

Several bills are expected to be introduced and debated during the session, alongside statements on key national issues and responses to questions directed at sector Ministers.

Among the major matters scheduled for consideration are issues relating to illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, which continues to pose serious environmental and economic challenges across the country.

Parliament is also expected to revisit the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, widely referred to as the Anti-LGBT Bill. The proposed legislation is anticipated to generate intense debate, given the strong and divergent views it has attracted both locally and internationally.

Members of Parliament are expected to use the session to scrutinise government programmes and ensure accountability in the management of public affairs as the House resumes its constitutional mandate.
