
The Obuasi Police Command has arrested 40 suspects following coordinated dawn operations targeting suspected criminal hideouts and drug peddling areas in Obuasi and nearby communities.
The operation, carried out on Monday, December 16, 2025, between 5:00 a.m. and 10:20 a.m., was led by ASP Adam Muakalu with support from the Divisional Operations Unit, Obuasi District Police, and the Formed Police Unit (FPU).

According to a police situation report, the raids covered Bedieso, Kunka Junction, Abompe, and Akaporiso. At Bedieso, eight suspects were arrested, and dried leaves suspected to be cannabis were retrieved from a black polythene bag found near the arrest scene.
At Kunka Junction, police arrested one suspect in possession of a wrapped substance believed to be cannabis. Eleven others who attempted to flee upon seeing the police were also arrested.

In Abompe, several suspects were picked up from a ghetto where they were allegedly smoking. Police seized two bottles of alcohol suspected to be mixed with cannabis. Further arrests were made at Akaporiso, including behind an uncompleted building where suspects were reportedly smoking and drinking. Another quantity of suspected cannabis and a pack of tramadol were also seized.
All 40 suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while seized items are being kept for forensic analysis. Police say those found culpable will be arraigned before court.
Detective Chief Inspector Odoom Stephen of the District CID assured residents that sustained operations will continue to clamp down on crime and improve security in Obuasi.
