The Ministry of Education has dismissed as false a publication circulating on Opera News which claims that Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu proposed a 13th-month salary for teachers to boost their welfare and motivation.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, the Ministry clarified that the Minister has never made such remarks at any public forum, policy dialogue, or official engagement. It described the report as a deliberate fabrication intended to mislead the public.

According to the Ministry, the article falsely attributed comments to the Minister, alleging they were made at a policy forum in Accra. The Ministry stressed that no proposal or advocacy for a 13th-month salary for teachers has been announced by the Minister or the government.

While reaffirming government’s commitment to improving the welfare and working conditions of teachers and education sector workers, the Ministry noted that such efforts are being pursued through structured negotiations and sustainable policy interventions, not through unfounded claims.

The Ministry has formally demanded that Opera News retract the publication immediately and issue an unqualified public apology to Haruna Iddrisu and the Ministry of Education. It also urged the public to disregard the report and avoid sharing unverified information that could create confusion.

The Ministry further assured the public of its commitment to transparency, stating that all official education policy announcements will continue to be communicated through credible and authorised channels.
