Manchester City have completed the signing of Ghana international Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth in a deal valued at £64 million, strengthening Pep Guardiola’s attacking options ahead of the second half of the season.

The 26-year-old forward has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract with the Premier League champions, taking Manchester City’s total transfer spending over the past 12 months to £425.9 million across 14 players.

City reached an agreement with Bournemouth slightly below Semenyo’s £65 million release clause. The deal includes a guaranteed £62.5 million, payable in instalments over 24 months, with an additional £1.5 million in performance-related bonuses. Bournemouth also secured a 10 percent sell-on clause as part of the agreement.

Although the release clause carried a guaranteed fee of £60 million, Bournemouth will receive a higher fixed amount under the negotiated terms. Manchester City beat off competition from several top clubs, including Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham, to secure the forward’s signature.

The release clause had previously enabled Bournemouth to retain Semenyo for an extra six months following interest during the summer transfer window, with the final sale surpassing all offers received at that time.

Semenyo’s move comes shortly after a memorable farewell performance for Bournemouth, where he scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner to secure a 3-2 home victory over Tottenham. He completed his medical with Manchester City on Thursday.

Championship side Bristol City are also set to benefit from the transfer, having negotiated a 20 percent share of any profit when they sold Semenyo to Bournemouth for approximately £10 million in January 2023.

The transfer further boosts Bournemouth’s recent player sales, which now total £266.5 million over the past six months. This follows the departures of Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid, Milos Kerkez to Liverpool, Illia Zabarnyi to Paris Saint-Germain, and Dango Ouattara to Brentford.
