Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Director of Communications for the Bawumia 2024 campaign, has dismissed the Mahama administration’s 120-day social contract as an electoral gimmick, arguing that it lacks genuine strategic intent.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, Aboagye accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of using the contract as a tool to win the 2024 general elections, without a practical plan for delivery.

“My assessment of the 120-day contract tells you that the government did not come into office with a plan. They came into office on the back of lies and promises they believed were going to sound nice in the ears of the voter,” he asserted.

He criticized the administration for merely reacting to challenges rather than implementing a cohesive policy agenda. According to Aboagye, the first four months under President Mahama have been marked by a lack of direction and tangible achievements.

Highlighting the gap between promises and performance, he said: “The tangibles have not been done. The things that will push us have not been fulfilled, and that is because those things are difficult to do in 120 days. So far, it’s just all about the launch.”

The Mahama-led government introduced the 120-day contract as a set of urgent priorities, including the formation of a full cabinet, reduction in ministerial appointments, introduction of a Code of Conduct for public officials, and hosting national policy dialogues on education and the economy.

Other notable initiatives launched within the period include the Tree for Life, Blue Water, and No Fee Stress programmes aimed at environmental sustainability and reducing the financial burden on parents of basic school pupils.

On the economic front, the administration has abolished several unpopular taxes such as the E-Levy, Betting Tax, and Emissions Levy, and pledged to remove the COVID-19 Levy in the upcoming national budget.
