President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as Ghana’s new Chief Justice at a ceremony held at the Jubilee House on Monday, November 17, 2025. This follows Parliament’s approval of his nomination earlier this month.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, nominated on September 23, 2025, was selected for his extensive judicial experience, having served at the High Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court. He had been Acting Chief Justice since April 22, after the suspension and later dismissal of Justice Gertrude Torkornoo

Appearing before the Appointments Committee on November 10, he pledged bipartisan leadership, improved access to justice, and a renewed commitment to judicial independence.
