A dramatic scene unfolded at the Vicsem Hotel in Ogbojo, Accra, when officers from the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) forcibly removed a Sierra Leonean woman among over 20 West African nationals awaiting deportation on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

According to reports, the deportees—who were scheduled for repatriation to their home countries—refused to comply with the deportation order, prompting GIS officers to intervene.

The woman, identified as a registered nurse who had lived in the United States for 35 years, reportedly pleaded with the officers to let her remain in Ghana, explaining that she had no family in Sierra Leone. Her request was denied, and during the altercation, she reportedly suffered an asthma attack.

A video obtained by Citi News captured the distressing moment when the woman resisted removal, struggling with officers before being dragged to the floor.

Sources indicate that the deportees were brought into Ghana under a repatriation arrangement with the United States. As of now, the Ghana Immigration Service has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
