The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has ordered the immediate closure of the Tamale Technical University Hospital following serious safety and hygiene breaches identified during recent inspections.

In a statement issued on Monday, November 10, 2025, HeFRA revealed that intelligence reports—supported by video and photographic evidence—showed that healthcare services at the hospital were being delivered under unsafe and unhygienic conditions.

A subsequent inspection by the Agency’s Compliance and Enforcement Directorate on November 3 confirmed these findings and uncovered additional irregularities, including the facility’s operation under an expired license—contrary to the Health Institutions and Facilities Act, 2011 (Act 829).

HeFRA has directed that the hospital remain closed from Friday, November 7, 2025, until all identified safety lapses and infection prevention issues have been fully addressed.

In addition, the facility has been fined GHS35,000 and ordered to regularize its licensing status before resuming operations.
