The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the Ghana Police Service have launched simultaneous intelligence-led joint operations across the Ashanti, Volta, and Ahafo regions to clamp down on illegal mining-related violence and restore security in affected areas.
According to a press release issued by the Department of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, the joint swoops are taking place in Daduwene and Anwona in the Ashanti Region, Ehi in the Volta Region, and Hwediem, Kenyase, Guaso, and Marhani in the Ahafo Region.
The operation, which began at dawn, aims to arrest individuals identified as being involved in recent attacks on members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), some police officers, and officials of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), including journalists.
The statement, signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces, warned that any individual or group that attempts to obstruct the lawful duties of the security services in their anti-galamsey operations will face the full force of the law.
The Armed Forces and Police Service assured the general public that adequate measures have been implemented to ensure the safety and security of residents in the affected towns and communities. Citizens have been encouraged to remain calm and continue with their daily activities without fear or panic.
The security agencies also expressed gratitude to civil society organizations, the media, and the general public for their continued support and condemnation of the recent attacks that disrupted the anti-galamsey operations.
The joint operations underscore the government’s unwavering commitment to combating illegal mining and safeguarding the nation’s natural resources from environmental degradation.
