The Government of Ghana has announced the establishment of a GHC1 billion Bawku Revitalisation Fund to support post-conflict reconstruction and development in the Bawku area of the Upper East Region.

The decision follows government endorsement of the Bawku Conflict Mediation Report presented by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.

According to the statement, the fund will be disbursed over a three-year period from 2026 to 2028 and will focus on infrastructure and socio-economic recovery projects. These include road construction, healthcare and education facilities, irrigation and dam projects to support all-year-round agriculture, security installations, and economic and commercial infrastructure.

Government says the initiative is aimed at restoring Bawku’s status as a major economic and trading hub while promoting peace, reconciliation, and sustainable development in the region.
