The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has announced that all public basic school pupils from Class 1 to Class 4 in the constituency will receive free Ghana-made cocoa drinks once a week.
The initiative is set to begin on March 2, 2026, and will run until the end of the year.
Speaking on the programme, Dumelo highlighted the nutritional benefits of cocoa, describing it as a “highly nutritional powerhouse” rich in antioxidants, iron, and magnesium — essential nutrients for cognitive development and sustained energy levels throughout the school day.
Beyond the health benefits, the initiative aims to support local cocoa farmers and manufacturers, improve school attendance, and foster national pride among pupils.
“This initiative boosts local industry, encourages consistent school participation, and helps our children appreciate the gold of our land,” he said in a statement.
The MP added that the programme reflects his belief that “a healthy child is a teachable child,” underscoring his commitment to building a stronger, healthier, and smarter future for the constituency.
