The High Court in Accra has sentenced Deborah Seyram Adablah to 45 days in prison for contempt of court after she released a series of videos defaming the judiciary and attacking a sitting judge following the dismissal of her 2023 civil suit.

Adablah, who rose to public attention after suing her alleged “sugar daddy” for breach of promise, was found guilty of making scandalous remarks against the court in videos widely circulated on social media. In the footage, she accused the presiding judge, Justice John Bosco Nabarese, of bias and unprofessional conduct, and issued veiled threats over his handling of her case.

The court noted that the content of the videos undermined judicial authority and constituted a clear case of contempt. A bench warrant was issued for her arrest after the first video surfaced, with Adablah responding by posting another defiant video, dismissing the contempt proceedings as meaningless and questioning the integrity of Ghana’s judiciary.

The judge ruled that Adablah’s behavior amounted to a calculated attempt to bring the court into disrepute and obstruct the administration of justice. In one video, she went so far as to say the judiciary was “chopping salaries from my menstruation,” sparking public outrage and prompting swift legal action.

Her contempt charge stems from actions taken during and after her civil case against a senior bank executive whom she claimed had failed to fulfill promises including financial support, a car, rent, and other benefits during their alleged relationship. The court had earlier ruled against Adablah, declaring the relationship immoral and rejecting her claims on grounds that no legal cause could arise from such an arrangement.

During the enforcement of a court order to impound the vehicle at the center of the dispute, Adablah reportedly obstructed bailiffs, arguing that they had acted prematurely. The car was nonetheless taken, and the court later awarded costs against her, further intensifying the controversy.

After her sentencing, Adablah was reportedly seen streaming a live video from the High Court complex, indicating she was being prepared for transfer to Nsawam Prison.
