Bishop Dag Heward Mills and Asantehene brouhaha continue to dominate the media space after the preacher’s 20-year-old ‘critical sermon’ was misinterpreted.
20-years ago, the Founder of the Lighthouse Chapel International preached a sermon on leadership and made some references to the Ashantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
According to the popular televangelist and leader of the Lighthouse Chapel International, Otumfuo’s reign as a king has not impacted positively of the Asante people in terms of development.
The leaked audio recording angered some indigenes of the Ashanti Kingdom, who demanded the man of God apologizes for his demeaning comments against the Asantehene.
“I am deeply saddened that a message I shared at a conference, nearly 20 years ago, has been taken out of its context and circulated by persons who have previously declared that they will maliciously cause our churches in Kumasi to be closed down,” the preacher said in his apology letter.
Dag Heward-Mills admitted in his apology letter that indeed the traditional leader brought development to his people.
According to him, the accomplishments of Otumfuo are “evident and manifest for all to see.”
However, it appears the youth of the Ashanti Region are not satisfied with Bishop Dag’s apology to Asantehene.
As a result, they held a press conference yesterday to express their disappointment in the popular televangelist.
According to them, Bishop Dag should have known better since he is a religious leader by inquiring from previous governments about the numerous works done by the Asantehene.
They further noted that Asantehene has single-handedly contributed to the development of this country, saving the country from “shame and impunity.”
They also made mention of some of the projects undertaken under Otumfour’s leadership.
They mentioned, scholarships, collaborating with the government to build the Kejetia Market and he’s currently building another market at Kofrom.
Later on, Kwame A plus also in a self-recorded video heavily descends on the Ashanti youth over the press conference.
According to him, the press conference held was unnecessary since there better issues they could have addressed.
He further noted that there are a lot of places in Ashanti Region without roads or have poor roads and they could use that same energy on the government than on this matter.
