The High Court in Accra has granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 to Alhaji Seidu Abagre, a 79-year-old retired teacher standing trial for allegedly acting as a chief in Bawku without the required qualification.
Justice Agbenorsi, who presided over the case on February 9, 2026, admitted the accused to bail with two sureties following an application filed by his lawyers.
As part of the bail conditions, Alhaji Abagre is required to report to the National Intelligence Bureau twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays. He has also been restricted from travelling outside the jurisdiction and ordered to refrain from presenting himself, or allowing himself to be presented, as a traditional leader.
The prosecution has further been directed to ensure that the accused, who is also facing charges of provocation of riot, offensive conduct conducive to breach of the peace, and fighting with weapons, receives appropriate medical attention.
The case has been adjourned to March 23, 2026, for continuation.
