Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has filed a lawsuit at the Human Rights Division of the High Court in Accra, suing the Ghanaian government and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) over alleged unlawful arrest, detention and human rights violations.
The 27-year-old cyber fraud suspect is seeking GH₵10 million in damages, claiming he was handcuffed, starved and interrogated by foreign agents without access to a lawyer following his arrest on 11th December 2025.
The lawsuit names the Interior Minister, Attorney-General, Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the FBI as respondents.
Abu Trica also alleges that officers conducted unauthorised searches of his Swedru residence, seizing luxury vehicles, electronics, and personal property, some belonging to friends.
He is requesting that evidence obtained during the alleged coercive interrogations be declared inadmissible and that foreign agencies be barred from exercising investigative powers over him in Ghana.
The case is set for hearings in February 2026 and could have major implications for foreign law enforcement operations and citizens’ rights in Ghana.
