Hajia Amina Adam, widow of the late Ayawaso East Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure, has officially filed her nomination to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary slot ahead of the by-election scheduled for March 3.
Her entry into the race sets up a contest with five other aspirants, including Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, as the party prepares to select its candidate for the by-election.
Speaking after filing her nomination, Hajia Amina Adam said her decision to contest was influenced by strong appeals from constituents who urged her to step forward and continue the work and legacy of her late husband.
She noted that the encouragement from party supporters and residents of the constituency strengthened her resolve to serve and contribute to the development of Ayawaso East.
Supporters of Hajia Amina Adam were seen in high spirits as her nomination was filed, signalling the beginning of what is expected to be a closely contested NDC primary.
