Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, has officially filed his nomination to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary in Ayawaso East ahead of the upcoming by-election.

Speaking to journalists after submitting his nomination forms at the NDC Greater Accra Regional Office, Baba Jamal confirmed that his documents were received and accepted by the party. He disclosed that vetting of aspirants is scheduled for the following day.

Explaining his decision to return home from a diplomatic post to contest the seat, Baba Jamal said his move is motivated by service, not personal or material gain.

“My motivation is not materialistic. My motivation is humanism and service to people. I am motivated to come down and serve my people,” he stated.

The former Deputy Minister said that although serving as High Commissioner is an honour, he believes his presence is more urgently needed in Ayawaso East at this time. According to him, leadership requires responding when duty calls, especially when people ask for service.

Baba Jamal assured constituents that he is committed to integrity, hard work, and selfless service if given the opportunity to represent them in Parliament.

He previously served as Member of Parliament for Akwatia from 2013 to 2017 and has contested the Ayawaso East seat before. In the 2024 NDC primaries, he lost to the late MP, Nasser Mahama Toure. The by-election has been triggered following the MP’s death.
