The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, and the party’s Sunyani East Communications Officer, Abubakar Yakubu, also known as Baba Amando, have been granted bail by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.
Abronye DC was arrested over alleged threats directed at a judge at the Adenta Circuit Court, while Baba Amando was picked up for alleged false publication.
Speaking to journalists in Accra after their release on Monday, April 13, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin called on the police to exercise tolerance in the discharge of their duties.
The NPP National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, also criticised the arrests, describing them as an attempt to divert public attention from what he termed the government’s poor performance.
He argued that the administration is facing increasing pressure over unfulfilled promises, including issues related to unemployment, business costs, and policy commitments.
According to him, this has led to what he described as the targeting and harassment of opposition members.
