Morocco national football team have been officially declared winners of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) overturned the result of their final against the Senegal national football team.
Senegal had initially secured a 1-0 victory in the final played on January 18. However, the match was overshadowed by controversy after Senegalese players briefly refused to continue play following a stoppage-time penalty awarded to Morocco while the score was level.
The disruption caused a delay of about 17 minutes before the match resumed. Brahim Díaz missed the penalty, and Pape Gueye later scored what appeared to be the winning goal for Senegal in extra time.

Following a review of the incident, CAF annulled the result and ruled that Senegal had forfeited the match.
In its official decision, CAF stated that the final result would be recorded as a 3-0 victory in favour of Morocco.
The ruling hands Morocco the AFCON 2025 title in dramatic fashion, bringing a controversial end to one of the tournament’s most disputed finals.
