The Ghana Police Service has arrested three suspects linked to a counterfeit cash syndicate operating across the Greater Accra and Eastern regions.
The suspects, Ebenezer Natsu, 20; George Attor, 48; and Bishop Robert Olertey, 54, were apprehended by officers from the Odumase-Krobo Police Command after intelligence-led surveillance.
Police discovered 105 bundles of counterfeit US dollars in $100 denominations amounting to $1,050,000 in the suspects’ possession.
The fake currency was concealed in a metal trunk at their hideout in Laasi.
According to investigators, the suspects were allegedly preparing to circulate the counterfeit notes in exchange for Ghana cedis during market activities in the area.
The operation that led to the arrests on March 11, 2026, was conducted by the Koforidua Municipal Investigative Team under the leadership of Augustine Asante Kusi, in collaboration with the Odumase-Krobo Police led by D/Cpl Williams Asante.
Police sources revealed that during the operation, one of the suspects, Bishop Robert Olertey, allegedly attempted to bribe officers with GH¢200,000 in genuine cash to avoid arrest.
However, the officers rejected the offer and proceeded with the arrests.
The suspects and the seized items were later handed over to the Akosombo Police Division, led by Chief Superintendent Doris Grant, for further investigations.
Police also disclosed that suspect Ebenezer Natsu has been arraigned before the Odumase Circuit Court and remanded into custody to assist with investigations, while the other two suspects have been granted police enquiry bail.
