Teacher Allegedly Gives Two Pupils 60 Lashes in Central Region

Two pupils aged 10 and 8 have allegedly been subjected to severe punishment by a teacher at Trinity Methodist Preparatory School.

According to the children’s father, , the teacher, identified only as Sir Ebenezer, allegedly flogged the two pupils—who are siblings—for sitting on chairs arranged for an event without prior permission.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Barnabas said the teacher gave the older child, a 10-year-old Class Four pupil, 40 strokes of the cane, while the younger sibling, an eight-year-old in Class Two, received 20 lashes.

“I returned home to see my boys crying uncontrollably. When I asked why, they told me their teacher lashed them for going to sit on chairs arranged for an event without his permission,” he said.

“The older one said he received 40 lashes, while the younger one received 20. Their arms, back, and buttocks had reddened stripes from the cane,” he added.

Mr. Barnabas explained that he initially contacted the school’s headmaster to lodge a complaint but described the response he received as unsatisfactory.

He subsequently reported the incident to the police and is demanding justice for his children.

“I am expecting justice. I took my children to school to be educated, not to be abused in this manner. I understand children can be punished, but not to this extreme,” he stated.

School authorities are yet to officially respond to the allegations.
