The community of Bawku is grieving the tragic loss of a 13-year-old boy, identified as Sherif, who was brutally murdered in the Singnatinga-Possum area of the town.
Sherif, who was tending to livestock near the old cattle market, was ambushed by unknown assailants. According to local reports, the attackers violently snapped his neck and stole his livestock, leaving the boy lifeless.
This tragic incident adds to the escalating violence in Bawku, a town plagued by prolonged territorial and ethnic conflicts. Sherif’s death brings the total number of fatalities linked to the unrest since October to 42.
While the motive for the attack remains uncertain, many believe it is tied to the ongoing instability in the region, where sporadic violence continues to threaten the safety of residents.
The young boy’s body was recovered and transported to Kpalugu, a neighboring suburb of Bawku, where he was laid to rest in line with Islamic customs.
