Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, the former Minister for Agriculture, has revealed that the widely recognized Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) policy was his personal initiative and not originally part of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2016 manifesto.
In an interview on Nhyira FM’s KuroYiMuNsem program, Dr. Akoto explained that the PFJ program, introduced during his tenure, significantly increased local food production and benefitted farmers with improved yields. He expressed pride in the policy’s success but lamented the limited funding allocated to the initiative, which he believes restricted its transformative potential for the agricultural sector and job creation.
Dr. Akoto also dismissed criticisms suggesting that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia should be blamed for the nation’s economic challenges, arguing that such views were misplaced.
