Voters to Pay Gh¢10 for ID Cards Replacement

Electoral Commission Announces Commencement of Voter ID Replacement Process

The Electoral Commission of Ghana is set to commence the replacement of voter identification cards starting from October 3, 2023. Dr. Eric Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairperson in Charge of Corporate Services at the Electoral Commission, made the announcement earlier today, outlining the details of the process.

According to Dr. Eric Bossman Asare, the replacement of voter IDs will be available to citizens who may have lost or misplaced their cards and those who require updated cards due to changes in personal information. The initiative aims to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the electoral system by providing eligible voters with valid identification.

The replacement process will require a fee of Gh¢10 cedis, as stated by Dr. Eric Bossman Asare. This nominal fee will be used to cover administrative costs associated with the issuance of new voter identification cards. It is important to note that this fee is applicable only to individuals seeking replacements and not for obtaining an initial voter ID.

To facilitate a smooth payment process, the Electoral Commission will introduce a short code that citizens can use to make the required payment. Dr. Eric Bossman Asare assured the public that the short code will be made available soon, ensuring easy accessibility for all eligible voters. The introduction of a short code payment system aims to streamline the process and reduce potential challenges or delays.

For further information and updates regarding the replacement process, citizens are advised to follow the official Electoral Commission channels and stay tuned for the announcement of the short code.

The Electoral Commission remains committed to upholding transparent and fair electoral practices, ensuring that every eligible Ghanaian citizen has the opportunity to exercise their right to vote.
