The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed Alan Kyerematen’s claims regarding his withdrawal from the flagbearership race. Kyerematen, who came in third at the Special Delegates’ Conference, was set to be one of the five candidates in the November 4 presidential primaries but withdrew, alleging intimidation of his supporters and election manipulation.
In response, Haruna Mohammed, the Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, confirmed receipt of Kyerematen’s withdrawal letter and expressed the party’s discontent with his decision. While the party respects his right to withdraw, they were not pleased with it as they believe competition of ideas is essential. The NPP also refuted claims of election skewing, arguing that delegates were selected in accordance with the party’s constitution and no preferential treatment was given.
The NPP acknowledged receipt of Kyerematen’s letter dated September 5, 2023, and disclosed that both the Elections Committee and the Disciplinary Committee have launched thorough investigations into reported violations and infractions during the super delegates’ elections.
