Yagbonwura Confers “Chief of Unity” Title on Vice President Bawumia

In a vibrant ceremony held in Damongo on Tuesday, Yagbonwura Bi-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, the Overlord of Gonja, honored Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia with the title of Konukolewura, symbolizing the “Chief of Unity.”

The prestigious recognition bestowed upon Dr. Bawumia was a tribute to his embodiment of tolerance and unity, as articulated by the Overlord during the ceremony.

The event, which served as an expression of appreciation for Dr. Bawumia’s visit and acknowledgment of the Yagbonwura’s unwavering support and prayers after his election as the NPP’s flagbearer, underscored the Vice President’s commitment to fostering unity.

Highlighting Dr. Bawumia’s pivotal role as a unifying figure for the nation, the Overlord elucidated that the chieftaincy title, Konukolewura, not only honors the Vice President’s exceptional qualities but also serves as an inspiration.

Extending congratulations for Dr. Bawumia’s historic election, the Yagbonwura expressed optimism about the Vice President’s future endeavors.

“Yagbonwura, your prayers have been answered, and through God’s grace, I have been elected as the flagbearer and leader of the NPP for the upcoming general elections. As your son, I sought your blessings before entering the contest, and it’s fitting to return and express gratitude for your prayers.”

“Yagbonwura, I have been your son since your days as Tulewura, and I assure you of my continuous allegiance, service, and devotion as your son,” emphasized the Vice President.

As a gesture of goodwill, Dr. Bawumia pledged support for the renovation of the Jakpa Palace, recognizing its current state of disrepair, in acknowledgment of the Gonja Kingdom’s seat.
