A woman has been arrested and placed in police custody for allegedly setting fire to the Grace Mountain Chapel auditorium in Accra, the church led by Alpha Hour founder Pastor Elvis Agyemang.

The incident occurred on the night of Monday, February 9, 2026, during a relatively quiet period at the church. According to reports, the suspect pretended to be praying before pouring petrol on chairs near the altar and setting them on fire.

CCTV footage from the auditorium captured the moment the woman carried out the act. The church’s security team responded swiftly and managed to contain the fire before it spread to other parts of the facility. No injuries were reported, and damage to the auditorium was limited.

Following the incident, Pastor Elvis Agyemang announced the temporary suspension of all in-person prayer sessions at the Grace Mountain Chapel.

“If you come here today, it will not be open, but it will not stop us. We will fix the place, and prayers will still go on,” he stated.

Pastor Agyemang revealed that this was not the first security-related incident at the church, recalling a similar occurrence last year when a woman allegedly spread powder on the altar, prompting restrictions on access to the area.

The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue to determine her motive and whether she acted alone or with accomplices. Police have described the case as a serious criminal matter and say further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
