WAEC Releases 2025 BECE Results; Cancels 177 Entire Results Over Malpractice

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of candidates who sat for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates.

In a statement issued on Saturday, August 23, 2025, WAEC announced that the entire results of 177 candidates had been cancelled for engaging in examination malpractice. Additionally, the subject results of 718 candidates were cancelled.

The Council further revealed that the entire results of 93 candidates have been withheld, while the subject results of 1,240 candidates have also been withheld pending investigations. The subject results of candidates from 119 schools were cancelled, with those of candidates from 87 schools withheld for further scrutiny.

WAEC stated that the withheld results may either be released or cancelled after investigations are concluded by September 6, 2025.

A total of 603,328 candidates sat for the 2025 BECE. This comprised 297,250 males and 306,078 females drawn from 20,395 participating schools. The candidates included 72 visually impaired students, 239 hearing-impaired students, and 161 with other special needs.

The examination was conducted across 2,237 centres nationwide, with 2,526 candidates absent.

The sanctions were approved at the 36th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee for BECE, held on Friday, August 15, 2025.

WAEC emphasized that details of withheld and cancelled results are available on its official website ([www.waecgh.org](http://www.waecgh.org)). Schools will also receive hard copies through their respective Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Education Directorates.

WAEC cautioned candidates and parents against dealing with individuals who claim they can upgrade results for a fee. It reiterated that results are secured and can be authenticated only through official channels.
