UPSA Names New Hostel After NAPO

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has honored Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Running Mate for the 2024 elections, by naming a newly constructed hostel after him. This recognition highlights his transformative contributions to education in Ghana during his tenure as Minister for Education.

The state-of-the-art facility, named the **Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh Hostel**, was officially unveiled during a ceremony held on the university’s campus. Dr. Kofi Ohene Konadu, Chairman of the UPSA University Council, commended Dr. Prempeh for his visionary leadership and instrumental role in facilitating the funding and construction of the hostel.

“This hostel stands as a testament to his dedication to improving infrastructure for tertiary education,” remarked Dr. Konadu, emphasizing Dr. Prempeh’s pivotal role in expanding access to education and addressing accommodation challenges.

The newly inaugurated hostel is designed to accommodate over 5,000 students, providing a modern and conducive environment for academic pursuits. It represents a significant step in addressing the growing demand for quality student accommodation at UPSA.

Professor Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey, Vice Chancellor of UPSA, lauded Dr. Prempeh’s enduring contributions, noting, “His leadership has transformed lives through initiatives like the Free Senior High School policy and infrastructure enhancements in tertiary institutions. Naming this hostel after him immortalizes his legacy in education.”

This honor follows UPSA’s conferment of an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree on Dr. Prempeh in 2021 for his exceptional leadership in advancing education in Ghana.
