U.S. Embassy extends condolences to victims of GAF recruitment tragedy

The U.S. Embassy in Ghana has expressed its condolences to the families of victims who lost their lives during the tragic stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra on November 12, 2025.

In a statement issued on Thursday, November 13, the Embassy extended its sympathies to the bereaved families and all affected by the incident, noting that its thoughts are with the people of Ghana during this difficult time.

The stampede occurred when thousands of job seekers gathered at the stadium for a Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise. The GAF has since confirmed that six people died and several others sustained injuries. The injured are receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital.

Following the incident, the GAF suspended the recruitment process pending ongoing investigations into the cause of the tragedy.
