
Two people have lost their lives while 19 others sustained injuries following a multi-vehicle accident on the N1 Highway near the Achimota footbridge in Accra.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the incident occurred on Monday, February 23. Fire officers from the National Headquarters responded to a distress call received at 19:58 GMT and were dispatched to the scene.
The collision involved a Kia motor truck (GG 1304-18), a Sprinter bus (GX 8325-13), and a Volvo trailer (GT 7856-20). Emergency responders extricated trapped victims and administered immediate medical assistance.
Out of the 21 individuals involved in the crash, two were pronounced dead at the scene. The remaining 19 injured persons were transported to Achimota Hospital and the 37 Military Hospital for treatment.
The GNFS stated that personnel, working in collaboration with other emergency agencies, secured the accident site, prevented further incidents, and cleared the roadway to restore traffic flow.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash.
The Service extended its condolences to the bereaved families, wished the injured a speedy recovery, and urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to enhance road safety.
