A 62-year-old woman, identified as Baby Abienor, has been killed in a suspected cutlass attack at Twifo Denyase Camp in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region.
Her daughter, Gladys, sustained severe injuries during the incident and is currently receiving treatment at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at about 8:00 a.m. A 30-year-old man, identified as Hormeku Agbemor, who was reportedly residing in the same house as the victims, allegedly launched the attack.
According to eyewitness accounts, the suspect suddenly turned violent and inflicted multiple machete wounds on the two women. Baby Abienor died at the scene from the injuries she sustained, while her daughter was initially rushed to a nearby CHPS compound before being referred to St. Francis Xavier Hospital due to the severity of her condition.
Police from the Twifo Praso District Command proceeded to the scene after receiving information about the incident. Officers were led to a wooden structure belonging to The Apostolic Church, Ghana, and two adjoining rooms, where the body of the deceased was found lying face down in a pool of blood. She reportedly had deep wounds on her neck and left arm, believed to have been inflicted with a cutlass.
About 15 metres from the scene, police discovered the body of the suspect with his hands and legs tied with rope and visible blood stains on his face. Investigators suspect he may have been lynched by some residents following the attack.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly began exhibiting unusual behaviour and verbally attacking the victims earlier that morning. Sensing danger, the deceased reportedly informed a church elder. However, by the time the elder arrived, he found her lifeless, with the suspect allegedly holding a cutlass and pleading for forgiveness.
The church elder alerted the Assembly Member and residents. Shortly after, the suspect was found dead a few metres away under circumstances believed to involve mob action.
Police have documented the scene and commenced investigations. The bodies of the deceased woman and the suspect have been deposited at the Twifo Atti-Morkwa Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
