The Ghana Police Service have arrested the driver of a Hyundai truck with license plate GS 9018 – 20 after he allegedly caused a collision with a Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) train on the Tema-Mpakadan railway line on Thursday, April 18, 2024.
The Ghana Police Service’s preliminary investigation indicates that the driver abandoned the vehicle on the railway track, resulting in the train’s impact.
The incident, which occurred earlier today, involved a recently arrived train from Poland that was undergoing a test run in the Asuogyaman District for service on the Tema-Mpakadan route.
Reports suggest that a truck was negligently left obstructing the railway line, forcing the train to collide with it despite the emergency brakes being applied.
The Ghana Police Service continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident, with the driver of the Hyundai truck currently in police custody.
