Togo is set to reject a proposal to host Ghana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sudan, citing scheduling conflicts.
According to reports, the rejection stems from the country’s inability to accommodate both Ghana’s match, scheduled for October 11, and Togo’s own qualifier against Algeria on October 15.
Ghana was forced to seek an alternative venue after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) banned the use of the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi due to substandard facilities.
The Accra Sports Stadium and Cape Coast Stadium were also deemed unsuitable, as all three are currently undergoing renovations.
With Togo’s Stade de Kégué being the only venue in the country meeting CAF’s standards, concerns arose over the pitch quality and short turnaround time between games, leading Togo to reject Ghana’s request.
Ghana may now have to play the game in Côte d’Ivoire, as they face a tight schedule in the Group F qualifiers, where they sit third after a 1-0 loss to Angola and a 1-1 draw with Niger.
