The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications (GCT) and the Digital Chamber of Ghana (DCG) have announced the appointment of Sylvia Owusu-Ankomah as their new Chief Executive Officer, effective October 1, 2025.

With nearly 20 years of leadership experience across Ghana’s telecommunications, digital, and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sectors, Sylvia brings extensive expertise and a proven track record in building partnerships and delivering impactful results.

Her career includes high-level roles at MTN Ghana, Tigo (Millicom Ghana), AirtelTigo (AT Ghana), and Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC (Diageo/Castel Group). She has played pivotal roles in some of the most transformative moments in Ghana’s telecom industry, including regulatory approvals for the country’s first major telecom merger, securing 3G and submarine cable rights for MTN Ghana, and steering post-merger integration and regulatory relations at AirtelTigo.

Sylvia has also contributed significantly to digital inclusion and innovation. She previously served on the Board of Trustees of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) and as an Advisory Board Member of the Ghana Innovation Hub, helping shape strategies to expand connectivity and foster digital entrepreneurship.

Stephen Blewett, Chair of the Governing Council and CEO of MTN Ghana, described her appointment as “an exciting new chapter for the Chamber,” highlighting her deep roots in the telecom sector and her ability to unite stakeholders toward digital growth and innovation.

Sylvia succeeds Ing. Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, who stepped down in June 2025 after nearly eight years of service, during which he established strong advocacy platforms for the sector and laid the foundation for the Digital Chamber.
