Suspect Arrested for Shooting Dompoasehene at Obuasi Funeral

Police in the Ashanti South Region have arrested a 30-year-old man, Nana Yaw Dankwa, for allegedly shooting and injuring the Dompoasehene during a funeral at Obuasi on Saturday, November 29, 2025.

Officers on duty rushed to the scene after hearing a gunshot and managed to disarm the suspect, retrieving an unregistered single-barrel gun loaded with ammunition.

The Dompoasehene, a chief from Adansi Dompoase, was taken for urgent medical attention and has since been discharged.

The suspect is in police custody and will be arraigned as investigations continue.
Authorities are cautioning the public against carrying weapons to social gatherings, especially funerals, which often become emotionally charged and prone to violence.
