The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially confirmed that Ghana will fully return to the West African WASSCE format beginning May/June 2026, ending the Ghana-only version introduced during the COVID-19 era.
In a statement issued on Monday, December 1, the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyí, reminded schools, parents, and students that the 2026 examination will be written simultaneously with all WAEC member countries.
GES urged candidates to intensify their preparation ahead of the regional exam, stressing that standards will be higher and the Service will not compromise examination integrity.
Fenyí also assured the public that GES will continue working closely with key partners—including WAEC, school heads, teachers, parents, communities, and civil society groups—to strengthen teaching, learning, and supervision.
The clarification follows comments from former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei-Adutwum, who linked recent WASSCE performances to GES policies. The Service dismissed those claims, insisting the 2025 results accurately reflect candidates’ academic performance.
GES says the transition marks a major step toward restoring full regional alignment and maintaining credible assessment standards.
