The Supreme Court of Ghana has granted the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its parliamentary candidates for Okaikwei North, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, and Techiman South additional time to respond to the Electoral Commission (EC) in an ongoing election dispute.
The case stems from a certiorari application filed by the NDC and its candidates, challenging the EC’s handling of the 2024 parliamentary election results in these constituencies.
Earlier, the High Court in Accra had directed the EC to collate and declare results in the affected areas. Since then, the EC has announced results for three of the four constituencies, with Ablekuma North still pending.
The NDC candidates initially encountered difficulties serving legal documents to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidates involved. The Supreme Court later intervened, permitting substituted service to ensure due process was followed.
During the hearing on Thursday, April 3, the NDC’s legal team requested more time to respond to the EC’s reply. However, Justin Amenuvor, representing the EC, opposed the request, arguing that the seven-day deadline for filing responses had already expired.
Despite the objection, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the NDC and its candidates, granting them an additional seven days to submit their response. The case will proceed once all required submissions are made.
