Member of Parliament for Sissala West, Mohammed Adams Sukparu, has blamed former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and his family for the ongoing standoff with the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), citing a lack of transparency and cooperation as the root cause.

Speaking on *Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily* on Tuesday, June 10, Sukparu stated that the current legal conflict could have been avoided if Ofori-Atta’s family had been forthright with the OSP from the beginning.

“If the former Finance Minister’s family had been open with the Special Prosecutor, we wouldn’t be facing this situation,” the MP said. He emphasized that the OSP only acts upon receiving petitions and that its current pursuit of Ofori-Atta stems from corruption-related complaints submitted to the office.

Sukparu’s comments follow the former minister’s family’s strong condemnation of the OSP’s recent actions. On Monday, June 9, they accused the OSP of launching a politically motivated attack, particularly criticizing the issuance of an INTERPOL Red Notice against Ofori-Atta. The family has petitioned INTERPOL to revoke the notice, claiming it was based on distorted facts and excluded critical medical details.

They also challenged the legitimacy of an arrest warrant issued on February 11, 2025, which accused Ofori-Atta of abusing public office for personal gain. The family argues that the warrant was improperly issued without a supporting affidavit and without formal charges.

Additionally, the OSP’s public labeling of Ofori-Atta as a “fugitive from justice” has sparked backlash. The family has taken the matter to the Human Rights Court, which is expected to rule on June 18.

While the family maintains that the OSP’s actions are unlawful and politically charged, Sukparu insists that due legal procedures are being followed and that the OSP is simply fulfilling its anti-corruption mandate.
