
The Ministry of Education Ghana has issued a stern warning to students across the country against attacking teachers, following a series of assault cases reported in some Senior High Schools.
In a statement dated February 19, 2026, the Ministry stressed that anyone including students who assaults teachers in the lawful performance of their duties will face the full rigour of the law.
“The Ministry notes with grave concern incidents involving assaults on teachers and related acts of violence in schools across the country. We take strong exception to these developments and are determined to nip them in the bud. Perpetrators will face severe consequences under Ghanaian law,” the statement said.
Recent cases cited include an assault at Kade Senior High Technical School, where individuals involved were arrested, arraigned before the Kade District Court, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and assault charges, and were subsequently convicted and fined.
The Ministry also condemned incidents during the Super Zonal Sports Competition in the Eastern Region, which reportedly involved stabbing and an alleged sexual assault. Suspects have been arrested and are assisting police investigations, while victims are receiving medical and psycho-social support.
At West Africa Senior High School, two students and an accomplice have been arraigned before the Adenta Circuit Court for allegedly assaulting a teacher. They have been remanded in police custody for six weeks pending further proceedings.
Speaking at the 54th Delegates Conference of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), John Dramani Mahama recounted a recent assault on a teacher during examinations and reaffirmed that attacks on educators will not be tolerated. He reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting teachers and ensuring offenders are dealt with according to the law.
The Ministry stated that it fully aligns with the President’s position and will continue working closely with law enforcement agencies and the judiciary to ensure justice is served and to prevent further incidents in schools.
