The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has formally requested Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo to reassign the presiding judge, Justice Edward Twum, in the case involving the confirmation application for the seizure and freezing of assets belonging to former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah.
The OSP is set to present its application to the court seeking approval for the seizure of 2.8 million cedis and 590,000 dollars discovered in Cecilia Dapaah’s residence, as well as the freezing of her bank accounts on suspicions of them being unlawfully acquired assets.
This move comes in response to the recent decision by the court to expedite the hearing, originally scheduled for October 18, as requested by Cecilia Dapaah’s legal team. However, the OSP’s legal representatives argue that Justice Edward Twum holds a bias against their organization.
The OSP’s request is grounded in their belief that Justice Edward Twum exhibits strong prejudice against both the OSP itself and the Special Prosecutor, making it impossible for them to expect a fair proceeding under his jurisdiction.
