NDC’s Nii Lantey Vanderpuye Steps Down from Odododiodio Constituency Parliamentary Race

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is in the process of selecting a new parliamentary candidate for the Odododiodio constituency following the decision of the incumbent MP, Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, to withdraw from the race. Three aspirants have submitted their nominations to compete for the parliamentary slot, with the election scheduled for October 31, 2023.

The Chairman of the NDC Elections Committee in the Odododiodio Constituency, Nii Adjebu Lamptey, has called on party supporters to exercise caution in their statements during the campaign. He emphasized that the ongoing process is an internal competition, and he hopes for a peaceful election. The filing of nominations has proceeded smoothly, and the vetting will take place at the regional party office on Friday. The election is set to occur as planned on October 31.

Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has served as the MP for the constituency since 2013. He was first elected as an MP during the 2012 elections, where he faced off against Victor Okaikoi of the New Patriotic Party. Vanderpuye expressed confidence in his chances, stating that if he received less than 65% of the vote, he would concede the seat to Okaikoi.

In the December 2016 elections, he retained his position as the member of Parliament for the Odododiodio Constituency, securing 57.04% of the vote with 36,606 votes, defeating the New Patriotic Party’s candidate, who received 41.56% of the vote with 26,671 votes.
