The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has run away from his responsibilities at his office as the chairman of the house.
On Twitter Ghanaians are asking the whereabouts of the Speaker of Parliament following recent chaos in the house during the voting of the e-levy bill.
Prior to the infamous fistfight in Parliament on Monday, December 21, 2021, the First Speaker of Parliament, Mr Bagbin has been away from the country for a medical leave in Dubai.
According to our sources, Ghana spent over $600,000 on his health during his medical trip to Dubai. He returned to Ghana recently and resumed his seat at the house.
He presided over their last meeting before the infamous exchange blows in Parliament.
Earlier on GhArticles.com reported that Members of Parliament on Monday night fought following a disagreement during the voting on government’s E-levy bill.
The fight ensued when the MPs were voting in a headcount to decide whether the E-levy bill should be accepted under a certificate of urgency.
The Minority had attempted to stop the First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei Owusu who was presiding over the House from leaving his seat and taking part in the voting process.
This infuriated the Majority MP who met them at the Speaker’s table to challenge the NDC MPs.
Prior to the sitting, the Majority had held a press conference stating the whereabouts of the Speaker, Alban Bagbin was unknown.
However, since the bill has been laid before the House, the First Deputy Speaker took over proceedings in the House.
Mr Joseph Osei Owusu then decided to swap position with the Second Deputy Speaker, who had voted, so he could take a part in the decision making.
However, the Minority MPs who disgraced with that position swiftly moved to the Speaker’s set to stop the swap with the Majority also moving to the seat which led to the crash.
Following the recent chaos in Parliament, Mr Bagbin is yet to speak.
This has left Ghanaian asking the competency of the Speaker of Parliament after he failed to discharges his duties as the First Speaker of the chamber.
Ghanaians have taken to Twitter to start a campaign with the hashtag #WhereIsBagbin to search to him.
See some reactions below;
After the state spent $600,000 on your health so that you can discharge your duties as speaker, you run away.

Is Bagbin really ill? Is he unable to function to the extent that 72 hours after the incident in Parliament he hasn’t been able to resurface to tell Ghanaians why he took to his heels when he was to preside over proceedings that day?#WhereIsBagbin pic.twitter.com/q1cDA8pTj9

“A real leader will be bold and honest no matter how tough a task is. The painful truth is that a coward only hides from toughest tasks.

When he was needed to preside over proceedings to enable the E-levy to be passed, he surreptitiously engaged in a dereliction of his duty
