The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, is set to hold a crucial meeting today, January 30, 2025, with the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Petroleum Commission, Victoria Emeafa Hardcastle.

The meeting follows a heated confrontation between Ms. Hardcastle and the Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, during the vetting of Dr. Omane Boamah as Defence Minister-designate on January 28.

According to reports, an exchange of words between Hardcastle and Annoh-Dompreh escalated, prompting the MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri to raise concerns about an alleged unjust attack on his reputation as a legislator.

In response, Annoh-Dompreh petitioned the Speaker of Parliament, requesting his intervention and calling for “consequential orders” before the establishment of the Privileges Committee—a body responsible for investigating parliamentary misconduct.

The Minority Chief Whip insists that the altercation was an “unprovoked attack” and has demanded immediate action to address the issue.

Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, Speaker Bagbin assured Parliament that he would personally engage Ms. Hardcastle before the formal constitution of the Privileges Committee.

The meeting, expected to take place behind closed doors, will likely provide the Speaker with an opportunity to hear Hardcastle’s side of the story and determine the next course of action.
