President John Dramani Mahama has announced that legal education will now be integrated into the national student loan scheme, enabling law students to access financial support for their studies.
Delivering his 2026 State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Friday, February 27, the President revealed that the government has initiated processes in collaboration with the Student Loan Trust Fund to include law students under the scheme.
“In collaboration with the Student Loan Trust Fund, I have good news for law students. Law students will now be able to access the student loan scheme to pursue their legal education,” he stated.
President Mahama explained that the decision forms part of broader reforms aimed at expanding access to higher education and making it more inclusive and affordable for all qualified students.
He also highlighted the impact of the No-Fees-Stress initiative, noting that the policy has already benefited more than 152,000 first-year students in public tertiary institutions. He added that the number of beneficiaries is projected to reach 220,000 this year.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to reducing financial barriers in the education sector and strengthening support systems to ensure equitable access to tertiary education.
